Summary/Abstract: Towards the end of the 19th century, Romanian historiography breaks away from „romanticism” and reaches the phase of positivist historiography. The development of Romanian historiography also gave a new impetus to church history studies. Church theologians and historians conducted systematic research into Romanian and foreign archives (Bucharest, Sibiu, Budapest, Vienna, Carlovit, Moscow, Kiev, Mount Athos, etc.), and discovered significant events from the past of the Romanian Church. This is the context in which, also in Transylvania, church historiography from the beginning of the 20th century was represented by a multitude of great historians, among whom are also the theologians of Bihor County, Vasile Mangra, future Metropolitan Bishop of Transylvania, and Stefan Lupsa, professor at the Theological Academy in Oradea, then at the one in Sibiu, authors of reference works in our church historiography.
