Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to focus on Carla Maliandi's novel, entitled A German Room, through psychoanalytic approach, more particularly through Freudian notions of grief, melancholy, and psychosis. Obviously, in terms of the manifest narrative’s content, the novel is like an illustration of the different forms of experience of emigrants’ life, most often difficult, hampered, alienating. And this is often since the mixing of cultures, communities, languages, representations of the world, etc., are not necessarily the proof of their encounter, nor of their dialogue. However, in terms of reading the narrative’s latent content, the text should be apprehended in the way psychoanalysis approaches dreamlike content. Therefore, the paper’s challenge is to highlight the idea that extremely contemporary literature could be clearly defined as a dazzling illustration of the malaise of our current societies, as well as of the psycho-mental pathologies which are closely linked to it. This observation is particularly made in the light of the dialogue of cultures and civilizations paradoxically affected, in the era of hypermodernity (yet era of global communication), by solitude, dumbness and paralysis.
