THE SOLIPSISTIC DRAMA OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: SOME REPRESENTATIONS OF THE PHENOMENON IN FRENCH CULTURE

Summary/Abstract: Domestic violence represents the result of a relationship based on imbalance and abuse of wrongfully appropriated power over another. It resembles a certain solipsistic drama, where each of the couple occupies the opposite pole within the same tragedy. Our article attempts to establish certain common traits of this perceptual loneliness, and further deals with the cultural-societal discourse on domestic violence. Specifically, we think about how it is reflected in music and literature. In the fight against this evil, the testimony of well-known media personalities who bring motivation and encouragement to the victims by publishing their story and their work is also fundamental. We will mainly be interested in two popular singers: Camille Lellouche and Barbara Pravi. In its last part, the study reflects on the treatment of domestic violence in literature; we will present the mechanism of domestic violence and the solitude of personal drama within the couple with the example of two novels: Darling by Jean Teulé and Under the Skin by Florence Clerfeuille.
