Summary/Abstract: The present paper examines the language of the social media in the context of English as a global language. Considering that English, as a natural language used in the online community, is constantly advancing, new lexemes are coined almost on a daily basis. The paper takes a close look at how these changes are manifested in three social media: Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. This paper investigate the relationship between social media and language by analysing new words and new meanings of words that originated from the abovementioned social media sites. The study focuses on blending as the most productive word formation process and compares the extent to which newwords occurs in these social media.
