Summary/Abstract: In the spring of 1919 the French Military Mission, led by General Paul Henrys, arrived in the reborn Poland. However, the establishment of the mission was preceded by a series of projects, plans and talks (including a meeting of the Council of Ten) and bilateral Polish-French negotiations. The first ideas concerning the creation of the mission appeared already at the end of 1918. The article presents the activities undertaken in this field, both on the international forum and between Paris and Warsaw, including talks conducted by the Chief of State Józef Piłsudski with General Niessel and General Henrys. The final result of these negotiations was the signing of an agreement on the establishment of the French Military Mission to Poland and a mission contract on 25 April 1919. These documents defined: the role and objectives of the mission, the status of the French personnel and issues related to their service in Poland.
