Summary/Abstract: The present article aims at analyzing the method of treating phraseology suggested by the dictionary Până-n pânzele albe. Expresii romȃnești by Stelian Dumistrăcel, based on the information provided by the article dedicated to the phrase a fi bun de dus la balamuc [to be worth being put to a mental desease hospice]. The author brings new arguments to the different stages of evolution of phraseology, referring to the relationship between words and the elements of culture and civilization that determine them. As linguistic structures such as phrases often bring together elements that denote the reality of the world from which they originated, Stelian Dumistrăcel aims at describing those contexts in which certain phrases or word combinations acquire figurative meaning, thus outlining their “biography”.
