Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the oldest East-Slavonic loanwords in Polish, exemplified with Russian (Ruthenian) borrowings in Old Polish beekeeping terminology. Taking into account the difficulties in the description of loanwords in genetically close languages, we provide an overview of the literature to date on the oldest East-Slavonic influences in Polish. The criteria proposed for the identification of borrowed units in the Old Polish period are useful for the delineation of the methodology of loanword description in genetically close languages. Going beyond the description of systemic (formal) features and taking into account the semantic and pragmatic aspects of the analysed units allow a more credible verification of the potential East-Slavonic borrowings in Old Polish.
