Summary/Abstract: The death of a police officer entitles members of his or her family to financial compensation, subject to the conditions provided by law. The principal type of this compensation is a survivor's pension. If the death of a police officer was related to the performance of official duties, the pension is available to family members on more favourable terms. A recently enacted law (8 February 2023) introduced a new type of compensation, called a 'financial benefit', to which family members are entitled in the event of a police officer killed while performing his or her official duties in conditions endangering his or her life or health.
