Summary/Abstract: Colonel Józef Szumlański was an adjutant, household member and close associate of Prince Józef Poniatowski. In 1830 he gave two correspondence interviews to Stanisław Kostka Bogusławski, the author of the first scientific biography of Poniatowski. The content of the interviews was preserved in the manuscript collections of the Scientific Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cracow. Until now, historians have used these materials only to a small extent. The current edition is the first full, critical edition.
