ZABRANJENA INSCENACIJA KARABEGA U NARODNOM POZORIŠTU MOSTAR
FORBIDDEN OF STAGE PERFORMANCE OF THE KARABEG IN MOSTAR NATIONAL THEATER

Summary/Abstract: In the history of theater, the phenomenon of banning literary works intended for stage performance is not unknown. The subject of this work is dramatization of the novel Karabeg by Nedžad Ibrišimović, whose stage performance, by the decision of the leading political structures in that period (1973-1974), was prohibited in the Mostar National Theatre. The public discussion about the banned performance of the dramatization of the Karabeg lasted almost a year. The aim of the work is to point out the time when the political authorities shaped the destiny of man and determined his guidelines in terms of religious-philosophical, artistic and sociological provenance, and from a scientific-research aspect to make known the fate of the dramatization of the novel Karabeg by the writer Nedžad Ibrišimović, and in this way to encourage theater scholars, sociologists and theater historians for further research on playwright Nedžad Ibrišimović and his dramatic achievements. Emphasis is placed on the role of the social community in the sphere of theater art and their mutual intertwining. The topic in the title required an interdisciplinary approach, and the application of several different methods. General scientific methods were used during the preparation of the paper: analysis and synthesis, inductive-deductive method, method of collection, classification, description, comparison, and interview technique. Theatrical, historical and sociological methods were applied. Theatrical analysis of the unstaged dramatization of the novel Karabeg on the Mostar stage will bring new knowledge about the playwright Nedžad Ibrišimović, the forbidden stage performance of the dramatization Karabeg, theater art and sociological image in a certain time and space. Researching the forbidden stage performance of Karabeg from the theatrical aspect is a contribution to theatrology, sociology and theater history.
