Summary/Abstract: The author considers the relationship between experincing time and experiencing depression. She points outthat during major depressive episodes, there may occura shift of temporal structures, so cinematic representa-tions should be modified to reject visual clichés and sub-stitute them with an embodied and affective experience oftime. The article features examples of phenomenologicalapproaches to experiencing time during depression. It fo-cuses mainly on film tropes in the depictions of depressivedisorder; the author criticizes clichés, especially close-upsof a crying woman, and proposes emphasizing embodiedtemporal structures instead. The main case studies are TheNeverEnding Story (Die unendliche Geschichte, dir. WolfgangPetersen, 1984), Aftersun (dir. Charlotte Wells, 2022), TheNight House (dir. David Bruckner, 2021), and Home (dir. Ur-sula Meier, 2008). The essay concludes with remarks aboutthe connections between depression and capitalism, ex-plored by slow cinema narrative.
