Summary/Abstract: From Warsaw with Love by John Pomfret is a book in which the author decided to describe the genesis, formation and latest aspects of the functioning of the alliance between the Polish and American intelligence services. It is a reportage devoted primarily to presenting the above issues from the perspective of former intelligence officers who participated in the events described. However, despite the media clamor surrounding the work and many flattering reviews in the public space, Pomfret’s book leaves much unsatisfied. It contains many simplifications and factual mistakes. An example of this is the descriptions of historical processes, such as the systemic transformation in Poland. Moreover, it presents an incomplete and distorted picture of the functioning of the intelligence services in the country. In addition, on the occasion of many threads it shows the course of events in a one-sided (“service-centric”) manner. This review article48 is a kind of abbreviated description of these problems.
