Summary/Abstract: The transition to circular economy is a multi–level process. This research paper aims to reveal the recycling habits and perceptions of the circular concept among Bulgarian consumers. Data collected through a structured questionnaire show that consumers demonstrate eco–friendly attitude but lack sufficient information, proper incentives, and adequate support from local authorities. Higher environmental responsibility leads to reduced consumption of harmful products and improves recycling rates. However, income turns out to be irrelevant to environmental engagement which suggests the presence of other factors influencing consumer behavior more actively. Waste separation, for example, has a positive effect on consumer engagement with environmental issues, and women are more pro environmentally inclined than men.
