Summary/Abstract: International organizations have become an integral part of the contemporary system of international relations, developing from the need to contribute to better interstate cooperation in all fields. The growing role that international organizations have today coincides with the importance that civil society gives, from case to case, to current problems of common interest for the whole world. Interstate cooperation is often facilitated through these IOs and where it fails to be achieved, international organizations are indispensable in solving problems under the conditions of an increasingly obvious globalization. Thus, the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross has been particularly consistent and dedicated to the humanitarian support of all those who have suffered from war in Europe and subsequently around the world. The year 2023 therefore marks 160 years since the founding of the International Committee of the Red Cross and 150 years of humanitarian action on the field by all those involved in the humanitarian relief movement.
