Summary/Abstract: The author of this article has been interested in and researching the phenomenon of the unprecedented development of public relations for years. Today, everyone knows this term, but not everyone knows where it comes from and what it includes. In the following article, the author intends to answer these questions in a way that is most understandable also for a non-scientist. This study presents the theoretical aspects of PR, i.e., describes its development and types of PR. As the author of the article has been a journalist for the largest regional daily in Poland for over 17 years, the chapter shows the essence of PR and media marketing in practice. The article introduces the knowledge of the basics of PR and its application. At the same time, it shows that PR nowadays is not only a possible solution for companies but also a mandatory element of the functioning of enterprises or any other organization in the competitive market.
