Summary/Abstract: During 1957-1961, there was only one faculty of veterinary medicine faculty , namely the one from Bucharest, which trained the veterinary surgeons necessary for the whole country. On September 11, 1961 in Iassy, and then in the fall of 1962 in Cluj and Timișoara, faculties of veterinary medicine were founded, but at the same time animal breeding faculties that copied the soviet model were discontinued. The major contributions of Romanian veterinary medicine to the national and international cultural-scientific heritage are highlighted. Mention of the personalities of Romanian veterinary medicine is made, who have been active over time and have contributed to the progress of veterinary sciences, which has led to the modernization of education at the level of the standards recommended by the European Community. Thus, in 1996, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest applied for membership of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE ), in Utrecht - The Netherlands. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest is nationally accredited by ARACIS and recognized at European level following the EAEVE evaluation in 2002, it offers students a solid training, and graduates a diverse range of options for practicing the profession of veterinary medicine.
