Summary/Abstract: In the 1930s, the young university assistant Maximilian Wagner was an epitome of the "superior man" for the Nazi establishment. His moral values and love for his Jewish wife, however, placed him on the opposite side of the German right wing. Wagner left Germany for personal reasons and moved to the young Republic of Turkey, where he was able to continue his academic career, but the Nazi terror would leave a harsh mark on his life, and Istanbul, where he had hoped to find a safe haven, was to become the scene of a heartbreaking tragedy that would have an irreparable impact on the rest of his life.
