Summary/Abstract: What would it mean to approach the politics of art from the perspective of care? This question already arises from the etymology of the word curator, as one who cares for. Does the curatorial profession, and its infrastructurethe museum-rise to the political imperative to care for, which Joan C. Tronto, a pioneer in defining the politics of care, has defined as “accepting responsibility and realizing that something has to be done”. Tronto’s account of care involves a variety of relations: one cares about (i.e. is attentive to needs); one cares for (is responsible for doing something); one gives care (is competent) and one receives care (is receptive).
