Cultural diversity and linguistic variation in the phraseology of residential dwellings

Summary/Abstract: This study proposes a systematization of the phraseology of residential dwellings in a trilingual investigation of a whole series of culturally-specific phraseological units: idiomatic expressions, compound words, fixed combinations/collocations, clichés, proverbs and sayings etc. The linguistic and cultural analyses emphasize the existence of some mental images and conceptualizations of dwelling-houses, shared by and “conventionalized in the speech community” (Ellis 2008:2), with a proven discursive and stylistic potential and an impressive linguistic variety.
