Summary/Abstract: For this article, analysing associations between cultural studies and philosophy, the starting point is Aby Warburg’s concept of cultural science, which intertwines philosophical threads and interpretations of works of art in their cultural contexts. Giorgio Agamben would in turn build on Warburg’s ideas, establishing cultural science as a domain where relocations of motifs and clues are laboriously reconstructed, while avoiding universal statements or formulations. Cultural science sets for itself different tasks than philosophy does; it would not have been conceived, however, without the help of philosophy – or without its rejection.
