Summary/Abstract: US military actions towards China rest on the European pivot, and Chinese economic strategies, in competition with the US, also pivot through Europe. Both world powers are courting or coercing the European continent but from different perspectives: the US sees China as a major obstacle in asserting itself as a political hegemon, and China sees the US as a major obstacle in its plan to become the world's best-performing economy. As such, some analysts argue that the struggle for world supremacy between the two superpowers will have as its strategic objective the supporting pivot of the Old Continent. Between China and the US, a fierce struggle for influencing Europe is heating up, but, at this moment, the European states are in a big dilemma and have to decide between the security dependence on the US and the dependence on the economic prospects, especially trade, represented by China. The confrontation between China and the US has engulfed Europe, where the US has most of its traditional military allies and where China has become its most important trading partner. But the strategic changes are megalithic: the US has declared many times that it is focusing on the Indo-Pacific region and has asked the Europeans to take into account a relative strategic defense autonomy, a pivot that generates enough nervousness in the main European capitals, especially in the Ukrainian context. For their part, the statements made by the President of France on the plane upon returning from his visit to China together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula Vonder Leyen, according to which Europe must continue to strengthen its independence and strategic autonomy in relation to the US and that " the most difficult thing for Europe" would be to simply follow America, from the position of"vassal, in case of the escalation of the crisis in Taiwan, where the USA has special interests. But the thing that the European NATO countries must take into account is this: These countries must publicly define their common position towards China, taking into account the fact that a policy that is too independent and too distant from that of the US will inevitably lead to to the serious deterioration of traditional transatlantic relations, which may evolve to the US giving up continuing to beEurope's security umbrella.
