Summary/Abstract: Born, raised and educated in Paris, Alexandru Emanoil Lahovari, descendant of a renowned family of politicians, contributed, for about half a century, to the development of the Romanian state's foreign relations with powerful countries on the Old Continent, his long and prodigious career in the field of diplomacy contributing to the fulfilment of the strategic agenda of the political decision-makers in Bucharest in the field of international relations.Tensions in Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, culminating in the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the Bicephalous Monarchy in 1908, led to the definitive separation of the Great Powers into two rival camps. In this deteriorating international geopolitical context, Lahovari was appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Paris, where he remained until September 1917, when he went to Italy. His term at the head of this legation was one of the longest of any Romanian plenipotentiary in Hexagon in the period up to 1918.The Assassination at Sarajevo, the Austro-Hungarian ultimatum, the outbreak of the Great War and the reactions of the Great Powers to the escalation of tensions are just some of the crucial events Lahovari experienced during the second part of his mandate in the City of Lights. This article aims to present the actions taken by the Romanian minister in Paris in support of the national cause, how Lahovari used his professional and personal relations in support of Romanian foreign policy at the Quai d'Orsay and beyond during the First World War.
