Summary/Abstract: We set ourselves the task to first essentialize Hegel’s dialectic of master and slave. This will help us to indirectly discard the famous variations on the theme by Marx and Nietzsche. It will become apparent that both decompose Hegel’s comprehensive solution by taking the stance of either the slave (Marx) or of the master (Nietzsche). Such one-sided interpretations have later degenerated into a political simplification of Hegel’s philosophical understanding, mostly into progressive narratives of „emancipation”. This is why towards the end of our research we advance the notion that, if there be any political reading of the master and slave dialectic, this is clearly headed into a rather conservative direction while so called emancipative narratives are rather a part of a new authoritarian solution.
