Summary/Abstract: Appropriating H. Spencer’s evolutionary empiricism very early, P. P. Negulescu supported his convictions regarding the relativity of knowledge throughout his life and work. In his bachelor’s thesis he defended the position about the unknowable absolute, and in a series of conferences he spoke about the limits of sensitive and intellectual knowledge. In agreement with A. Comte, he concluded that understanding is limited to the relationships between phenomena and in his university courses he specified that the epistemological problem does not deal with the universe but with the human mind, which is variable over time and from individual to individual. A follower of scientific determinism, he supported the relativist position regarding knowledge of the truth, even at the risk of being accused of scepticism.
