Summary/Abstract: Victor Hugo's interest, passion and openness to Spanish culture, language and history are well known and have been the subject of many research works. In this article we have set out to summarise the main facts and clues that explain the closeness of the Hugolian aesthetic universe to Spain. Starting from biographical tangents, we referred to certain concrete Spanish signs in Victor Hugo's texts, based on elements of a glottic and semiotic nature specifically in his theatre plays.
