Summary/Abstract: This article presents a consumerist lifestyle in the face of consumer trends such as freeganism and slow food. A thorough characterization of both phenomena, allowed to point out the differences between frugal and wasteful way of functioning. Modern consumerism, based on technology, degrades ethics and morality. It induces man to unjustified temptations and quick decisions. Thus, it interferes with the consciousness and independent thinking of individuals. The complete opposite of this phenomenon are ideas focused on truth, honesty and social justice. Freeganism and slow food are movements focused on such values. Their main goal is to raise awareness of rational consumption, but also to rebuild lost social values. The above study is an attempt to show whether trends undermining the culture of consumption may become a serious threat to the omnipresent consumerism.
