Summary/Abstract: In the article is being considered understanding of concept of hate speech, hate language as an emotional communication used by media and methods of researching hate speech in the media. The basis of considerations is the book „Hatred in mass media: diagnosis and research” written by A. Całek, K. Lachowska, M. Lisowska-Magdziarz, M. Pielużek, R. Wietoszko, which describes and researches the issue of hate in media message by means of quantitative and qualitative research from social communication point of view. Hate speech is a type of emotional communication based on hatred. With this assumption the effectiveness of selected methods of hate speech researching is considered. The presented methods show the phenomenon of hate speech as emotional communication. Each of them presents the phenomenon from a different perspective. The issue of hate speech is multifaceted, therefore using various methods and an interdisciplinary approach to the subject seems to be necessary to understand the base of it.
