Summary/Abstract: One of the important topics in the modern Georgian academic discourse is the issue of the European identity of Georgia, the scientific research and correct perception of which is very important for the European future of the Georgian state. The article discusses the genesis of European and Georgian identities, their markers, cause and effect relationships. According to the paper, the European identity matrix of Georgia is based on historical, political, economic, social and cultural characteristics,, according to which Georgia is considered a part of European civilization. The research will help Georgian and foreign scientists to perceive the European identity of Georgia better, which will be a novelty for Georgian and European historiography.
