Summary/Abstract: Very often history cuts its path so that, although at the time of the party they do not seem, the unfolding events change the entire course of humanity, direct it irreversibly. One of the particularly striking examples in this sense is, referring to Byzantium, the period of the reign of the great emperor Constantine in the 4th century. History gives the occasion and opportunity to special personalities, if they capitalize and increase their grace given by God, to lead lives towards an enlightened and fully redemptive future. Alexius I Comnenus (Constantinople, 1048 – Constantinople, 1118), the founder of the dynasty with the same name, emperor of Byzantium between 1081 and 1118, represents one of the personalities whose period of rule was marked, above all, by the redraw of the map of Christendom, through the start from Western Europe of one of the most contested actions organized under religious pretext - the beginning of the centuries of the Crusades.
