Digital twins and the operation of the enterprise in a turbulent environment

Summary/Abstract: Digital twins (DT) are currently an important technological trend, but still insufficiently recognized in the literature on the subject. The aim of this article is to identify this phenomenon, the areas of its application and the impact on the operation of the company in a tur- bulent environment. This goal was achieved through the analysis of literature, databases and electronic resources as well as a case study. The technology of digital twins, which is the digital equivalent of things, objects and processes from the real world, is used mainly in the pro- duction process, but also in the areas of product design and testing, distribution and customer service. The considerations confirm the the- sis about the positive impact of DT on the functioning of the company in a rapidly changing environment by increasing strategic flexibility.
