Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to analyzing the legal status of religious communes in the light of the law during the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as well as the Second Polish Republic period. Its purpose is to determine whether this status corresponds to the assumptions of Tadeusz Bigo’s concept regarding including religious communities in the conceptual category of public law associations.
