Summary/Abstract: This material is written to present a few ideas about the artificial intelligence, a topical and interesting subject both for legal and non-legal practitioners. The new technologies and facilities offered by artificial intelligence raise a number of issues concerning the limits of their use. Do the algorithms specific to artificial intelligence have a conscience? If the answer to this question is affirmative, are these aware of their capacity or of what they can do? Without considering the issue to be settled or closed, for the time being, about the known artificial intelligences it can be said that they possess a conscience. The good news is that we do not have certain unfavourable answers to the two questions above, and the bad news is the very lack of certainty. However, at least for now, the known computer algorithms do not have the aptitude to acquire a conscience given that feelings and sensations are not necessarily features of intelligence. What does the near future have in store for us? It is hard to anticipate.
