Summary/Abstract: After the suppression of the Kosovo uprising (1910), large groups of people from Kosovo, together with some of the leaders of the national movement, were forced to leave their place and seek refuge in Montenegro. One of them, even the first to come to Montenegro was Isa Boletini, who initially settled in Nikšić. This people’s strategist, organizer and leader of the National Liberation and Unification Movement, stayed in this place for several years, where he was treacherously killed by the enemy, the Montenegrin gendarmes, in Podgorica on January 23, 1916, on the same day when the Austro-Hungarian army entered Mitrovica. Montenegrin press paid special attention to the stay of Albanian refugees, and especially to Isa Boletini, while many documents that shed light on his arrival, life, and activity as ëell as of other Albanians during their stay in Montenegro are kept in the State Archive of Montenegro (the fund of the MIA and MFA and the Montenegrin Consulate in Shkodër). There are also some documents about Isa Boletini in the Historical Institute of Montenegro. The aim of this paper is to highlight some little known or not at all known aspects of the actions of Montenegrin authorities towards Albanian refugees.
