Guardians of Memory – the Donation Program Adopt-a-Book in National Library “St. St. Cyril and Methodius”

Summary/Abstract: Adopt-a-Book is a donation program which is well-known around the world. More than thirty years the preservation and restoration of collections in many European and American libraries have been supported through it. In the end of 2009 Bulgarian National Library started its own permanent program Adopt-a-Book. The chief priority of the project is the conservation of documents from special collection (manuscripts, old printed editions, photographs and etc.). This article aims to present the patterns, characteristics, achieved results and short history of the program. The text discusses also the donors as nowadays guardians of memory.
