ARCHIVES AND THE NECESSITY OF ARCHIVING SOCIAL MEDIA

Summary/Abstract: Archives are witnesses of the past. They provide researchers, historians and experts of different fields with proofs, interpretations and reasons for the actions of the past; archives are the means of communication between generations. These institutions, while offering society access to the records, influence positively the economical and social developments, help into trespassing the cultural, physical and political barriers, what contributes into developing an extensive identity of our society. On the last years, social medias have been transformed into the favorite channels of communication, be it in the private sphere, but also in the public level. Public administration has started to use social media, creating thus a relationship with citizens, aiming the improvement of the service in time and quality. Naturally, the usage of the social medias in the future will be an important source of communication for the future generations. In this paper we will try to analyze the extension of the social medias, the importance of the documents created by them and the importance of their preservation.
