The role of the historical book in shaping national identity in the nineteenth century in the light of home collections of intelligence, landed gentry and clergy of the Kingdom of Poland

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to show the place and role of historical books in shaping national identity in the light of the book about family life, intelligence and clergy in the Kingdom of Poland in the nineteenth century. The analysis of literature and the use of archival sources includes determining the scale of contacts of historical books in the homes of the modern enlightened version „, As well as browse the topics collected in the literature. Research shows that historical books on native history were set items in libraries. First of all, apart from study manuals, collecting monographs devoted to political history, the stories of rulers, leaders and sometimes glorifying biographies of national heroes. The equivalent importance of the role of the presentation book in the available formula of cultural heritage, tradition and creating a sense of national identification, especially important in the period of loss of nationality.
