Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history of papier-mâché from its first implementation in the construction of objects designed for military armor during the Chinese Han Dynasty period (202 B.C.–220 A.D.) to the present days, focusing on the Victorian era and the introduction of papier-mâché for decoration of the Victorian interior design. Handmade and machine made methods for papiermâché are presented, visually illustrated through graphics from the conservation of Owen Jones’ relievo papier-mâché binding for “The Psalms of David”.
