Summary/Abstract: Tasso revolutionized pastoral drama through the use of ironic verbal settings to convey a message of temperance. Aminta is a dramatic pastoral fable prevalent in Ferrara in mid-16th century which revolves around a journey of characters, where unworthy characters remain on the periphery and worthy ones return to their families and brighter future. There are ambiguities in Gerusalemme Liberata - female characters are both agents of divine power and also portrayed as powerless victims; it presents a variety of moral codes; language and imagery are full of metaphors, symbols, allusions, and embedded meanings with multiple possible interpretations. This complexity of the work creates an atmosphere of uncertainty that allows readers to build their own understanding of the narrative. In addition, the use of classical references in the poem encourages readers to engage in a deeper level of interpretation and explore the connections between the myth and the story.
