Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the Italian term spatriato, an author’s semantic neologism coined by Mario Desiati in Spatriati (Einaudi, Turin, 2021), the laureate of the latest Strega Awards, the most prestigious literary prize in Italy. The new meanings come from the corresponding term in the dialect of Puglia, which is where the author comes from. The journalistic documentation of the connotations of the term follows the writer’s interviews in online press.
