Summary/Abstract: Monitoring and improving air quality in urban areas of Romania is a crucial concern for safeguarding public health and the environment. In this context, the current research focuses on the evolution of expenditures on environmental protection at both the public administration and private economic agents' levels, with the aim of assessing the impact of these expenditures on enhancing air quality and reducing atmospheric emissions, particularly carbon dioxide, which is a major pollutant. Evaluating the quality of these expenditures is essential to understand their efficiency and relevance in enhancing air quality and the overall environment. By monitoring the presence of harmful elements in the air, we can obtain a clear and comprehensive picture of the effectiveness of these environmental protection measures. Thus, the research highlights the importance of establishing an objective framework for evaluating the outcomes of efforts directed towards environmental preservation.
