Summary/Abstract: Data available in empirical studies unequivocally prove the important regulatory functions of the health locus of control phenomenon. These functions are revealed in a natural, standard environment, however, from a scientific point of view, it would be extremely important to reveal the role of this personality construct as a mediator of individual behavior in an extreme situation, where there is an external life-threatening agent. In the present study, an analysis is made of the regulatory functions of the health locus of control in the critical situation caused by the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The results show that a radical change in the standard, natural characteristics of the situation in which human behavior unfolds, in turn, leads to a change in the regulatory functions of the health locus of control. The data from the study show that this change in the regulatory functions of thehealth locus of control is mediated by some demographic characteristics valid for individuals. The present study of health locus of control is part of large-scale international research conducted in Bulgaria and in five other countries – Germany, China, India, Indonesia and Hungary. This paper discusses the study conducted in Bulgaria whichincludes 405 subjects aged between 18 and 80.
