Summary/Abstract: Contemporary literature presents itself as an eclectic mixture of styles and approaches. However, in what concerns literature for the youth, particularly young adults, it still seems to follow certain patterns, aiming towards the traditional whether it is about recurring themes or tropes. Considering this aspect, this paper will briefly explore the concept of the ‘hero’ using Carol S. Pearson’s model of the already well-established archetype. Applying the notions on the protagonist of the young adult series ‘The Lunar Chronicles’ by Marissa Meyer, the purpose is to explore the heroic quest and highlight the stages required to one’s formative ritual as presented to a young public.
