Summary/Abstract: In the paper the author presents the oldest testimonies containing a description of the camera obscura. They can be found in works of Ancient China, in the opus of Mozi, from the philosophical movement called motism, and in Ancient Greece, in the Aristotle’s Problemata, that was written in the spirit of peripatetic thought. Chronological priority is commonly given to Chinese testimony, because Master Mo lived before Aristotle. However, both works have a long editorial tradition by advocates of both philosophical traditions. The paper is focused mainly on the Greek thought with the author’s translation of the XV.6 and XV.11 Problemata.
