Price increase on the energy market and the impact on public finances

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of price increases on the energy market on public finances in Romania. In this regard, we will present some relevant theoretical aspects regarding the relationship between inflation (generalized increase in prices) and its impact on public finances, as it results from the literature. We will also briefly present the current situation on the energy market, showing the most important developments that have taken place. To see the impact of price increases on public finances, we will use a Vector-Auto Regressive Time (VAR) time model and a quarterly data set from 2006-2021 for public debt and the harmonized price index.
