Summary/Abstract: Focusing on William Saroyan’s “Resurrection of a Life”, the present paper highlights that the short story is in fact an impressive authorial confession in regard to American society’s environment in the early 20th century. It also acquires cosmic nuances, as the author brings to the fore a series of existential questions thus striving to comprehend life as it is then struggling to change it. Starting from this assertion, the article also emphasizes the relationship between language and image when decoding texts with spiritual content. In this regard, the critical research is provided by Joseph Campbell’s 1949 “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” which presents topics such as dreams, the myth of rebirth, and many other challenges of the hero's journey. Campbell analyses humanity from a mythological and symbolic perspective, emphasizing how the stories of the whole world are actually one story: our story, of each one of us.
