Summary/Abstract: This article is a short summary of the History of the Hungarian People’s Army (Magyar Néphadsereg), with emphasis placed on its operational tasks, structure and planned wartime application during the Cold War period. The Hungarian People’s Republic was a member of the Warsaw Pact, so the above mentioned tasks were signed in Moscow, and the planned deployment of the country’s military was covered by the Soviet South-Western Theater of Military Operations so-called Northern-Italian and Danube Valley Operational Directions.
