Summary/Abstract: The article seeks to address the importance of the spiritual dimension in people suffering from dementia (especially Alzheimer’s disease). Fulfilling spiritual needs is crucial for the good clinical condition of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. There are scholarly studies that show that different pastoral approaches, that focus on meeting the spiritual needs of the sick person, can improve the quality of life for people in early, mild, and even advanced stages of dementia. The article also highlights the theological and anthropological dimensions of the life of those suffering from dementia. It seeks to capture the implications of the disease for both the person with dementia and for pastoral work with them.
