Summary/Abstract: Motivation is indispensable for learning the French language; it determines the students achieving their goals and being active and responsible. Motivation plays a significant role in educational achievement that does not depend solely on cognitive abilities and the student’s skills. Nowadays, the study of the French language has become a necessity because it increases progress in all social spheres. The students who learn the French language in college are generally motivated by short-term goals: a good mark, a scholarship, and a translation of an article. There are also students interested in French because they want to go to France with the Erasmus scholarship or to work there. The role of the teacher is decisive, regardless of the type of motivation of students. The teacher can ask questions to find out what interests students, and what they expect from the French course, thus, he can find activities that stimulate students’ motivation and develop the skills necessary to communicate and understand a common but also specialized foreign language.
