Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to essays of Peter Vayl – the Russian author of the Third Wave of Emigration. His work is discussed in the context of the achievements of ‘memory studies’ research. Since the writer considers the Soviet Union as his homeland, in his works this concept is associated with the category of memory. The subject of “Karta rodiny” (2002) is focused around the collective memory of Russians. The author analyzes the distortions and blank spots of collective memory, tracing the influence that official historiography (both Soviet and Russian) had on it. In his essays Wayl observes and analyzes Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union (the article discusses Wajl’s analysis of creating a new vision of history in Ukraine).
