Summary/Abstract: This research paper studies the concept of realia words, one of the essential elements in Translation Studies. Cultural-specific terms require to be translated accurately from one language into another in order to preserve and convey the information they carry. One can observe an increasing number of Russian realia words in Romanian media since the Romanian Revolution, which are used to depict the Russian Federation, its culture and people. This is a relevant topic because the media is influential – it impacts the way in which the audience perceives an issue. The aim of the paper is to analyze the frequency of the Russian realia words in Romanian media, their connotations and whether they are correctly translated or not.
